Important Changes to the Dual Enrollment Grant

What is Dual Enrollment?

Dual Enrollment takes place when a high school student is enrolled in high school and college simultaneously. Dual Enrollment provides a means for high school students to accelerate their college education and get a feel for what learning will be like after high school.

What is the Dual Enrollment Grant?

The Tennessee Dual Enrollment Grant program is a grant for study that is funded from net proceeds of the state lottery and awarded to students who are attending high school and who are also enrolled in college courses at Pellissippi State. Students are awarded a maximum of $600 per award year, divided up into $300 for two semesters both your junior and senior years. If you are awarded the Dual Enrollment grant, Pellissippi State also awards you an additional $99 scholarship.

The grant deadlines set by the state of Tennessee are as follows:

Fall - September 15th Spring - February 1st Summer - May 1st

HOWEVER, you are responsible for paying fees according to the fee deadlines set by Pellissippi State each semester. Pellissippi State fee deadlines are as follows:

Fall 2011 If you register prior to August 11th, fees must be paid by August 11th.
If you register between August 11th and August 25th, fees must be paid by August 25th.
Spring 2012 If you register prior to January 3rd, fees must be paid by January 3rd.
If you register between January 3rd and January 10th, fees must be paid by January 10th.

Am I eligible for Dual Enrollment?

To qualify for general education courses, you must:

To qualify for career technical courses, you must:

What classes can I take?

You can take any class for which you receive college credit.

For courses and availability, check out our course schedule. For course descriptions, please check out our catalog.

Can I lose my eligibility for the grant?

Yes. In order to remain eligible for the grant, you must maintain a 2.75 cumulative college GPA. Basically, you need to make a B or higher in the college courses you take.

Also, once you have satisfied your high school requirements, you are no longer eligible for the Dual Enrollment grant, and will need to complete the FAFSA to receive the Hope Scholarship, if you qualify.

College courses taken under the restrictions of the Tennessee Dual Enrollment grant do not count towards the Tennessee HOPE Scholarship college GPA and the attempted credit hours limitation.

How do I apply and register?

Once these steps are complete, the Admissions office processes your paperwork and the Cashier's Office credits your account $399. We encourage you to complete this process as soon as possible.

Any textbooks and/or balance not covered by the Dual Enrollment grant are the responsibility of the student and parents and can be paid by logging in to your myPellissippi account or at our cashier's office prior to the registration deadline each semester.
