2010 Pellissippi State Hot Air Balloon Festival
October 1-2, 2010
Chef Garrett
Join us for a live taping of a cooking/travel show! Chef Garrett Scanlan is a familiar face to many in our area thanks to his show on East Tennessee PBS, "90 Miles with Chef Garrett." He joins us this year for his very first appearance at the Pellissippi State Hot Air Balloon Festival. Chef Garrett takes the stage on Saturday, October 2, 5:15 p.m. – 5:45 p.m., when he'll be taping an episode of "90 Miles."
Scanlan, a native of Ireland who owns two Knoxville-based restaurants, has over 30 years of culinary experience as a certified master chef. His recipes have been published in more than 50 cookbooks. Scanlan has also been featured in multiple publications, including Food & Wine, Gourmet, The New York Times and The Dallas Morning News. Additionally, Chef Garrett participated in the Culinary Olympics, a competition established in Germany in 1900 and held at four-year intervals. The Culinary Olympics, slated again for 2012, attracts approximately 25,000 spectators. Scanlan is certainly one chef who's prepared for any size of a crowd in his "kitchen."
As host of the unique "90 Miles with Chef Garrett" cooking and travel show, Scanlan forays across the entire state of Tennessee—90 miles at a time—to visit often-overlooked culinary treasures in our own backyard. Then, he returns to his kitchen to share with viewers tips and recipes inspired by each episode's travels. Scanlan's ventures have ranged from Gatlinburg's famous taffy makers to Asheville's Grove Park Inn and have included multiple "hidden" stops along the way. East Tennessee's version of woozy cake or shepherd's pie, anyone? The series can be seen on Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. on PBS.
And just what does he have up his chef's sleeve for his visit to our balloon festival? Join us on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. to find out…and be a part of the behind-the-scenes "recipe" of "90 Miles with Chef Garrett."
