Accessible Web Design & Compliance
Whether you're in business or in government, improved access to your Web site equals increased hits. But how do you improve access if you don't know where to begin? This online class will help you open up access to your Web site by applying “universal design.” Universal design is an approach that makes products, services, and environments accessible to as many users as possible. When you consider that approximately 10 percent of the population needs some sort of accommodation to use a Web site, that's a bundle of hits to a homepage. There's no doubt about it: a class on improving Web accessibility can help participants increase their Web traffic. But that's not the courses only, or maybe even it's most important, benefit. Most businesses and government-sponsored institutions that are used by citizens and paid for by tax dollars have to be accessible. Accessible Web Design and Compliance is suited to people who are already familiar with creating Web pages with HTML and have knowledge of Adobe Acrobat. This course is a nuts and bolts class for people who work on Web sites. Questions such as “Are we in compliance?” and “Is our Web site accessible?” and “How do we make our site accessible?” will all be answered in the class. Participants will become familiar with accommodations such as a screen reader (a computerized voice that reads the words to a blind person), a screen magnifier, and voice recognition software. Participants will also learn how to caption video similar to the text that scrolls across the bottom of cable news channels. This is an online course. Please contact Debi Bolton at (865) 539-7008 for additional information.
