Six-Stringin' From Scratch; Guitar for the Adult Beginner (Ages 13-Adult)
Let's start from “scratch” ... meaning “to come from nothing.” If that is how you feel about your guitar playing then this is the class for you!! During the six week period we will start from “scratch” with learning our basic chords and some basic strum patterns. As we trudge along on our guitar journey we will also get familiar with how to use a capo and make your playing easier, as well as, dabbling a bit with tablature and finger picking. In this class we will play some of our favorite tunes and have fun!! No musical experience is necessary, just a willing spirit to have a great time! Required book available from the instructor the first night of class at an additional cost. Participant must furnish guitar or you can rent one from the instructor prior to class. Class is limited to 25.

Dueling Banjos for the Adult Beginner (Ages 13-Adult)
Been wanting to play banjo for a while? Here's your chance! In this eight week program we will learn two styles of banjo playing. The first four weeks we will learn an old style playing called up-picking. During this class we will familiarize ourselves with chords, reading tablature and rhythm. You will be up and picking the first night of class and will never look back. Because this is an easy style of playing, it is a great lead-in to the most popular and well known of styles…bluegrass/Earl Scruggs style which is what we will work on the last four weeks of class! We will learn the basic roll patterns and learn some familiar and popular tunes…a few in both styles!! Come join us for the fun and pickin'! No musical experience necessary. Required book available from the instructor the first night of class at an additional cost. Banjo to be furnished by participant or one can be rented from the instructor prior to class. Class limited to 12.

One additional class of music basics has been added as the first lesson in this course to make it even easier for students with no music background to participate starting from ground zero. During the nine weeks of instruction, you will learn some old time fiddle tunes, as well as others, and lots of playing techniques. If you don't have a dulcimer (required at first class), the instructor can provide sources, including inexpensive cardboard body dulcimers. Selected near-CD quality recordings of the class and/or the instructor will be emailed to students to improve their learning experience. Class is limited to 12.

Novice Mountain Dulcimer, Part II
Continue to grow from a beginner dulcimer player. This is a continuation class from “Beginning Mountain (Lap) Dulcimer.” We will learn more about DAD cording, explore other tunings, music timing, dulcimer techniques and tones, introduce cross-picking and finger picking, and generally have a good time. Students must already know how to tune their dulcimer, play around 10 different beginner tunes, have or get a capo for their instrument, understand some basics of music timing from the staff and notes, and be able to read dulcimer tabulation. Students must have their own dulcimer from day one. Selected recordings of the class may be emailed to the students to improve the learning experience. Class is limited to 12.
