Summer Camps
Pellissippi State offers a wide variety of summer camps for kids during the months of June and July. Camp times, dates, fees and descriptions are listed below. Participants can bring money for snack machines (optional). All sports camp participants must bring water clearly marked with their name. Camps will be at the Pellissippi Parkway Campus unless otherwise noted. Call the Business and Community Services office at 539-7167 or 539-7166 to register or for additional informtion. Register by phone with a credit card or use the registration form provided to register by mail. Registration fee will be refunded only if the class is cancelled by the College or upon notification of the student to withdraw at least two working days prior to the starting date.

Developmental Basketball Camp for Girls & Boys
Ages 7-15/Fee: $99
Join us for a developmental basketball camp that focuses on discipline, proper shooting form, basic skills on defense and offense, teamwork and other fundamentals of the game. Campers will be divided into groups based on age and ability. There will be a hot shot, free throw, and gotcha competition. Come join the fun and put the "FUN" in FUNdamentals.

Little Aces Tennis Camp
Ages 6-12/Fee: $90
This camp will focus on hand-eye coordination, serves, backhand, forehand and other fundamental aspects of tennis. Participants will need to supply their own racquet.

This camp is for students who can use the basic strokes. Participants will concentrate on improving basics such as strategies, hand-eye coordination, backhand, forehand and serve. Participants will need to supply their own racquet.

Junior Golf Camp
Ages 7-17/Fee: $125
This camp will focus on the basics of swing progression, posture, stance and other fundamentals, including golf etiquette. Have fun and use acquired skills one day at a driving range and one day at a golf course. Participants will need to supply their own clubs and balls. Golf shoes are not necessary.

Junior Archery Camp
Ages 10-15/Fee: $150
This camp is for girls and boys with or without experience in archery. The camp is designed for students to learn safety rules and basic archery techniques. The camp will focus on learning and developing shooting skills by playing archery games such as popping balloons and others. Equipment is provided. Camps are limited to 12 participants.

Beginning Volleyball Camp

This developmental camp will cover such basics as the forearm pass, setting and serving. A mixture of drills and scrimmages will teach fundamental skills while participants have fun.

Skateboarding
Ages 5-15/Fee: $90
Skateboarding is the third most popular sport in the U.S. and can be enjoyed nearly anywhere. This fun, action packed camp is designed to equip beginners with basic skills, tricks (board maneuvers) and safety practices. Demonstration and individual coaching on mastering tricks will accelerate skateboarding skill and confidence. A team of instructors will provide personal attention. Helmets are required. Knee and elbow pads are recommended.

Nonstop Action Bikes
Ages 5 & up/Fee: $90
This fun, action-packed camp will give kids the chance to be on their bikes while they learn safety and tricks (fakie, bunny hop, manual), and practice critical handling skills. Becoming a good cyclist requires understanding many tricky techniques including bike handling, bike set-up and repair, maneuvers, and other skills. We will also talk about attitude and park etiquette. This class is for all skill levels. Students must provide their own bike (BMX or mountain) and be able to ride without training wheels. Helmets are required. Elbow, knee, and shin pads are recommended.

Karate Camp
Ages 6-11/Fee: $90
Kids will enjoy this adventure filled camp and be introduced to karate. This lifelong sport builds cardio fitness and physical strength. Karate training not only develops self-confidence, but also instills character qualities like self-discipline, honor, respect and loyalty, and can have a positive influence on academic progress. Class will include basic techniques and ground work, as well as some kickboxing and jujitsu.

Self Defense for Teens

Arm your teen with the strategies and techniques they need to protect themselves. This fun and practical camp will equip teens with basic karate and kickboxing skills (blocks, punches, kicks), as well as other self defense strategies. Students will practice/use valuable strategies and skills that can be used for self-defense.

Scuba Rangers

This camp is designed to introduce children to the world of snorkeling and scuba in a controlled pool environment. The class is designed to build self-confidence and self-esteem while participants have fun. Students will learn proper use of snorkeling equipment and the basic practices and principles of scuba diving. Students must have basic swimming skills and parents must sign a medical release form. Mask, fins, and snorkel are required, and can be rented or purchased at Ski/Scuba Center. Class is limited to 8 participants.

Social Skills for Teens

Participants will be guided through the rules of etiquette without stressing. In this 3 hour class, teens will socialize with classmates using hands-on training and leave with a renewed sense of confidence. This process will better prepare participants for life's unexpected and awkward situations. Topics covered include (1) dining etiquette at home and out; (2) social settings, banquets, dances, party manners, public speaking; (3) wireless etiquette; and (4) food, dieting, and exercise.

Mind Your Manners

This class will provide hands-on training to build interpersonal skills. Art Camp

This class will focus on fine arts skills for young artists. Students will paint, draw, and do many fun projects. Activities may include basic drawing, figure drawing, proportion, calligraphy, paper making, sculpture, book and journal making, color theory and/or perspective drawing, depending on the interests of the class.

Claymation Camp

Learn the process that studios go through as they create claymation movies and cartoons such as "Wallace and Gromit" or "Chicken Run." Participants work in groups. Each group will write a script, create clay figures and backgrounds, take photographs and finally compile into short animated movies on a computer. Final project will be burned to a CD and viewed at a movie premier on Friday afternoon.

Fun With Magic & Tricks
Ages 10-18/Fee: $119
Amaze your family and friends with magic tricks! This course is a beginner/intermediate discipline in the art of magic where students learn how to perform magic in front of an audience using sleight of hand techniques, speech patter, and timing misdirection skills. Students will use basic magic tricks to practice and perform with, as well as doing magic with ordinary objects such as cards, coins, and rope. On the last day of camp students will perform a brief 10 minute magic show for their peers.

Beginning Knitting

Learn the basics of knitting and in the process end up with a fun item that you created. You will practice these techniques by making something like a simple bracelet and then use the skills you've learned to create an item such as a small purse, scarf, belt, etc. Participants will need to provide some supplies and a small materials fee is payable to the instructor. Class is limited to 8.

Learn simple forensic techniques and use these techniques to solve a mock crime. Lab activities may include blood typing with simulated blood, finger printing and analysis, preparing a slide of your cheek cells, DNA extraction, and use of microscope/dissecting scope to analyze hair, skin, fingerprints and cheek cells.

Our scientists will enjoy five fun-filled days of experimentation that enhance their ability to perform science and math in a team setting. Knowledge of the scientific method will be increased through a series of hands-on activities as you modify and race remote-controlled vehicles to test efficiency. Explore the fascinating world of
the aquatic ecosystem and visualize how mathematical and life sciences can be used to unlock the secrets of the unknown. By the end of the week you will be shouting, "I am a scientist!!!"

Are you a budding Spielberg? Do you YouTube? Young video-graphers can polish their skills by joining us in this hands-on class that will introduce students to the basic technologies used in broadcast/video production. You will be introduced to the basic technologies used in video: the system and the equipment, the basic procedures and techniques, and the process of production and design. Students will participate in shooting with mini-DV cameras and will complete a video project. Class is limited to 14.

Digital Photography

Campers attending the Digital Photography Summer Camp for Kids will learn how to maximize their skills and the features on their digital cameras. We will look at the artistic aspect of photography in terms of understanding light and composition in a finished photograph. Campers learn techniques to alter images and edit digital errors such as removing red-eye. Participants must supply their own digital cameras.

This camp is designed to reach kids how to be safe. Safety topics include, but are not limited to home safety, fire safety, bike safety, internet safety, etc. Students will also develop skills in first-aid and CPR. Participants will learn how to respond to a variety of emergency situations. This class can be helpful for baby sitters.
