Pellissippi State hosts free alcohol-awareness event for public, college community

Alcoholism and alcohol abuse cut across race, gender and nationality. In the U.S., 17.6 million people—one in every 12 adults—abused alcohol or were alcohol dependent, according to a 2001-2002 study directed by the National Institutes of Health.

Pellissippi State Community College is sponsoring a free event called Pell-Aware to raise awareness of the dangers of alcohol. Students, faculty, staff and the community are invited.

Pell-Aware is March 2, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. It takes place in the Goins Building College Center on the Pellissippi Campus, 10915 Hardin Valley Road.

Representatives from East Tennessee mental health centers, rehabilitation facilities and health-care organizations will be on hand to provide information on alcohol-related issues. Confidential screenings will be available, with referrals given as needed.
