Pellicon 2011

From Jedi contests and Xadune discussion panels to guest lectures on animation and game design, Pellicon 2011 offers attendees a wide variety of activities—all centered on sci-fi, anime, role playing and games.

Scheduled for March 26 and 27, Pellicon 2011 takes place at Pellissippi State Community College.

The convention—the first of its kind to be staged at the college—is hosted by S.U.R.G.E. (Sci-fi, Ultima-anime, Role playing, Games and Everything else), a Pellissippi State club focused on multi-fandom (a collective of fans of sci-fi, games, etc.) and hobbies.

Special guest stars at Pellicon 2011 are the MidSouth Garrison of the 501st Legion, a club with members in Tennessee and Kentucky, all of whom celebrate the “Star Wars” films through costuming.

Pellicon’s Next Jedi contest features competitors performing lightsaber tricks and moves to music from “Star Wars.” Other competitions include a music video contest and Project Cosplay, a costume sewing competition. Additional discussion panels cover such topics as karaoke, fantastical dance and the maid and butler café (with role playing in costume).
The convention takes place at the Pellissippi Campus, 10915 Hardin Valley Road. Event hours are 10 a.m.-9 p.m. each day, with pre-registration beginning at 9 a.m. on March 26 and at 10 a.m. on March 27. Admission ranges from $5 to $20. College students receive discounted admission with valid I.D.
