Pellissippi State Community College presents the final three performances of “Handler” by Robert Schenkkan at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 1 and 2, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 3. The presentations take place in the Clayton Performing Arts Center on the Pellissippi Campus, 10915 Hardin Valley Road.
Robert Schenkkan is an American playwright who won the 1992 Pulitzer Prize for “The Kentucky Cycle,” the first play to win the Pulitzer before appearing on Broadway.
The Pellissippi State production of “Handler” is the regional premiere of Schenkkan’s play. The language in “Handler” is poetic and powerful, and the production offers the audience a unique experience through the play’s staging and imagery.
The production features a veteran cast and original music composed and performed by the well-known Knoxville singer/songwriter David O’Dell. The play is directed by Steven McBride.
Tickets are available at the Clayton Performing Arts Center Box Office 30 minutes before each show. Suggested donations will be accepted at the door at the following rates: $8 for Pellissippi State students and faculty, $10 for area students and seniors, and $12 general admission. All proceeds go to the Pellissippi State Foundation to support the Theatre program and scholarships.
