Pellissippi State’s free concert series concludes season on April 28

Of the nine presentations in Pellissippi State Community College’s annual music concert series, only one remains for the 2010-11 season. The Spring Choral Concert, scheduled for April 28, features performances by the student groups Concert Chorale and Variations Ensemble.

Throughout the season, attendees have had the opportunity to enjoy a wide sampling of music—from choral to instrumental, bluegrass to holiday fare. The highlight of the season finale is a multimedia presentation of the Variation Ensemble’s Spring Break 2011 tour in France.

As the choir sings, the audience will experience the tour through video and still photography. The tour included five days in the Normandy region, with a ceremony and mini-concert at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial commemorating World War II. The group then spent three days in the capital, where members performed in churches, at an international school and at the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris.

Concert admission is free. However, donations will be accepted at the door for the Pellissippi State Foundation on behalf of the Music Scholarship fund. For the 2010-11 academic year, the Foundation awarded more than 100 music-related scholarships to more than 80 Pellissippi State students.

The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Clayton Performing Arts Center on the Pellissippi Campus, 10915 Hardin Valley Road. Parking is convenient and free.
