Pellissippi State recognizes outstanding students

Pellissippi State Community College recognized students for their outstanding achievements at the 2011 Academic Awards Ceremony, April 4 in the Clayton Performing Arts Center on the Pellissippi Campus.

Students Emily Holcomb and Jing Zhou were named to the All-USA Community College Academic Team. They were nominated by Pellissippi State President Allen G. Edwards in recognition of scholarly achievements. Zhou was also the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award–International, presented to a student with an international background.

Inductees in the 2010-11 Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges were Catrina Adams, Angela Allen, Seth Anderson, Susan Blaine, Michelle Britney-Boyd, Tosha Cook, Kevin Fillers, Rondo Johnson, Kim Lara, Samantha Preshong, Donna Serna, Karee White and Donald Wilson.

Awards of Merit were presented to students in several academic disciplines: Thomas Cox, Mechanical Engineering (Engineering Technology); Simone Hamak, French; Benjamin Painter, Civil Engineering (Engineering Technology); and Ryan Wilson, Interior Design Technology.

The Media Technologies program presented Awards of Merit to Stuart Down, Communication Graphics Technology; Barry King, Web Technology; and Sarah Lilly, Video Production Technology.

Outstanding Graduate awards were given across the curriculum as well. Recipients included the following: Fiorina Adorati and Shaina Simerly, Natural and Behavioral Sciences; Susan Blaine, English; David Hamblin, Mathematics; and Brent Sadler and Stephanie Poole, Liberal Arts.

Business and Computer Technology Outstanding Graduate Award recipients and their disciplines of study: Vickie Bruce, Marketing (Business Administration); Terry Martin Jr., Networking and Communications Systems (Computer Science and Information Technology); John Overton, Programming (Computer Science and Information Technology); Nicholas Phillips, Management (Business Administration); Michelle Sauls, Business (Administrative Professional Technology); Krista Seivers, Hospitality (Business Administration); Elaine Smith, Health Care Office Administration (Administrative Professional Technology); Kristin Spurgeon, Business (Administrative Professional Technology); and Justin Wilson, Paralegal Studies.

The Engineering and Media Technologies Outstanding Graduate Awards were presented to Marvin Burkhart, Civil Engineering (Engineering Technology); Mason Carden, Video Production Technology (Media Technologies); Paris Cornwell, Mechanical Engineering (Engineering Technology); Paisley Gunter, Communication Graphics Technology (Media Technologies); Kathryn Pratt, Photography (Media Technologies); Rachelle Quigley, Electrical Engineering (Engineering Technology); Corbin Schappel, Web Technology (Media Technologies); and Rachel Tipton, Interior Design Technology.

Cheryl Ledford was honored with the Mechanical Engineering (Engineering Technology) John C. Mauer Award of Excellence. The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs ACBSP Student Leadership Award was presented to Kevin Fillers.

Faculty member Edward Francisco was selected by students to receive the Faculty of the Year Award. Francisco is a professor of English and the writer-in-residence at Pellissippi State.
