Pellissippi State schedules summer, fall orientations for new students

If you’re a new student at Pellissippi State Community College for summer or fall semester, mark your calendar for one of the college’s free New Student Orientation sessions.

Attendance is required of all first-time degree-seeking freshmen and is recommended for transfer students and those who have been out of school for a while.

Students starting at Pellissippi State this summer may attend an orientation session on Friday, May 27, 9-noon. The session will take place on the Pellissippi Campus, 10915 Hardin Valley Road in Knoxville.

New fall semester students may choose from one of 25 sessions beginning June 10. Four sessions have been scheduled for knoxAchieves students only. Orientation is offered at different times and dates at each of the college’s four sites: the Pellissippi Campus, Blount County Campus, Division Street Campus, and Magnolia Avenue Campus.

This year’s theme for New Student Orientation is “Determination, Participation and Graduation.”

Becky Milam, NSO director, elaborates on that theme: “We’re focusing on graduation as an outcome. We know that students are more focused when they get involved. And people need to be determined to set goals and maintain balance while in school.”

Orientation gives new students the opportunity to meet Pellissippi State students, faculty, and staff; learn strategies for college success; explore degree and major choices; and discover campus services and resources such as financial aid.

Pellissippi State encourages parents, spouses and others who are supportive of a student to attend. The college also urges accepted students to reserve their place in an orientation session as soon as possible.
