New non-credit evening courses at Pellissippi State’s Blount County Campus

Blount County residents have a new opportunity to enjoy a variety of non-credit evening courses, thanks to the Blount County Campus of Pellissippi State Community College.

Offered through the Business and Community Services Division, the slate of summer evening courses ranges from language to photography and home improvement topics. Selections include the following:

  • “Residential Construction Basics”—Tuesdays, June 7-July 5, 6:30-8:30 p.m.; $79. This course addresses the basic structural elements involved in building or remodeling residences, as well as building code requirements. Instruction is geared to those who wish to do the work themselves or oversee a home project.
  • “Simple Home Repairs”—Thursday, June 16, 6:30-8:30 p.m.; $29. Bring your to-do list to this two-hour course and learn basic repairs for such problems as leaky toilets and faucets, malfunctioning electrical outlets, and off-center doors. Also discover how to install a deadbolt lock.
  • “Basic Spanish”—Tuesdays, July 12-Aug. 16, 6:30-8:30 p.m.; $95, plus a $17 material fee payable to instructor. Learn basic vocabulary, pronunciation and sentence formation in this six-week course. Special emphasis will be placed on practicing for situations likely to be encountered in travels and in business settings.
  • “Basic Digital Photography”—Wednesdays, July 13-Aug. 10, 6:15-8:15 p.m.; $89. Students will learn to use a digital camera effectively by practicing exposure, composition, lighting and color theory. Participants must bring either a digital single-lens reflex camera to class or a point-and-shoot camera that can be placed in manual mode.
