Non-credit family enrichment courses offered at Pellissippi State

Learn how to trace your family tree. Pick up tips for harmoniously blending a stepfamily. Discover resources that can help home-school a child successfully.

This summer, the Business and Community Services Division of Pellissippi State Community College offers a variety of family enrichment courses, including the following:

  • “Yes! You Can Home-School”—June 13-20 (Mondays), 6:30-8:30 p.m., or July 16 (Saturday), 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; $45. This new four-hour course is geared to novice home-schoolers and those considering home-schooling. Leave with practical resources, as well as the confidence, to home-school kindergarten through high school.
  • “Family by Design: A Guide for Stepfamilies That Stick Together”—June 13, 6-9 p.m., or July 16, 9-noon; $45 per person or $55 per couple. There are techniques available for overcoming the challenges of creating a stepfamily, and this class gives attendees the tips to merge two families into one with harmony.
  • “Basic Genealogy”—July 14-Aug. 18 (Thursdays), 6:30-9 p.m.; $75. Sam Maner, local author of several genealogical publications, brings his 25 years of experience as a genealogist and historian to the classroom. This course covers all of the basics for tracing your family tree.
