National Advisor of the Year to lead non-credit finance course at Pellissippi State’s main campus

Jim Brogan, who was recently named the 2011 Advisor of the Year by financial industry publication Senior Market Advisor, is slated to teach a non-credit course at the main campus of Pellissippi State Community College that will help attendees plan for retirement.

“How to Thrive Financially in Retirement” is one of three upcoming courses offered by the Business and Community Services Division of Pellissippi State that focuses on personal finance.

A non-credit instructor at Pellissippi State since 2007, Brogan is the owner and president of Brogan Financial, a Knoxville-based retirement and legacy planning firm. The advisor, author, talk show host and philanthropist earned his M.B.A. from the University of Tennessee and is a certified retirement financial advisor.

His “How to Thrive Financially in Retirement” class is offered on Thursdays, Nov. 3-10, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the Pellissippi Campus, 10915 Hardin Valley Road, Knoxville. The course fee is $59.

Pellissippi State’s Blount County Campus also will offer “How to Thrive Financially in Retirement.” The class is on Thursdays, Oct. 4-11, 6:30-8:30 p.m. The Blount County workshop is led by Jim Kraeske, an investment advisor representative with Brogan Financial. The campus is located at 2731 W. Lamar Alexander Pkwy., Friendsville.

Additional upcoming finance-related courses include the following:

“Introduction to Wealth Management”—Thursdays, Oct. 13-27, 6:30-8:30 p.m., $50. This three-week class covers everything from the fundamental principles of investing to complex absolute return strategies involving options. Topics include stocks, bonds, mutual funds, annuities and IRA/401K distributions.

“Tennessee Estate Planning—It’s Not Just Having a Will”—Tuesday and Thursday, Oct. 18 and 20, Nov. 15 and 17 or Dec. 13 and 15, 6:30-8:30 p.m.; $49. This two-session course addresses the need to plan for disability, as well as death. Participants will leave the first class with a properly executed advance-care plan (living will).

Unless otherwise noted, all classes meet at the Pellissippi Campus.
