Free solar class offered at Pellissippi State

Thanks to a grant from the city of Knoxville, 10 eligible students will have the opportunity to attend a six-day solar course offered at Pellissippi State Community College.

In “Photovoltaic System and Design,” students will install a solar panel on a simulated rooftop, explore solar power relationships with local power providers and develop quantitative data to show how solar power saves money. The sessions are appropriate for those taking the first steps toward a career in the green industry.

The free class, in which enrollment is limited to 10 students, is open to individuals who have acquired the Career Readiness Certificate–Gold Level. Information regarding this certification is available at local career centers.

Dates for this special offering of “Photovoltaic System and Design” are Nov. 14-25. Sessions are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Classes take place in Room 206 of the Alexander Building on the Pellissippi Campus, 10915 Hardin Valley Road.

To register, call the college’s Business and Community Services Division, (865) 539-7167. Students should be prepared to provide proof of career readiness certification prior to the first class meeting.
