Thanks to a grant from the city of Knoxville, eight eligible students will have the opportunity to attend a free five-day “Fundamentals of Solar Hot-Water Heating” class at Pellissippi State Community College.
This marks the second time in November that Pellissippi State has offered a training at no charge thanks to a grant from the city. The other free class was the six-day “Photovoltaic System and Design.”
“Fundamentals of Solar Hot-Water Heating” will cover topics ranging from an introduction to solar hot-water heating systems to the legal responsibilities and building codes associated with those systems.
The class is appropriate for those planning to work and those already working in the burgeoning green industry. Installers, technicians and contractors will come away with the skills to advance in their design, installation and servicing responsibilities.
The class will include hands-on lab assignments as well as textbook readings. It is recommended that individuals interested in enrolling have prior knowledge of solar power and construction principles.
Dates for this special offering are Nov. 28-Dec. 2. Classes are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., in Room 206 of the Alexander Building on the Pellissippi Campus, 10915 Hardin Valley Road.
To register, call the college’s Business and Community Services Division, (865) 539-7167.
