Pellissippi State listed among ‘Top 50 Fastest-Growing’ two-year schools

Pellissippi State Community College now ranks among the “Top 50 Fastest-Growing Public Two-Year Colleges” nationally. The rankings were released in November by Community College Week. The analysis was based on U. S. Department of Education data.

Pellissippi State experienced a 7 percent gain in headcount from fall 2009 to fall 2010. That helped propel the school to the 45th position nationally among the fastest-growing public two-year colleges with an enrollment of 10,000 or more.

The fall 2009 enrollment at Pellissippi State was 10,295, while the fall 2010 enrollment was 11,049.

Overall enrollment at public community and technical colleges nationwide rose 3.1 percent in the same period. Public and private four-year institutions showed a 3.2 percent increase.

“This increase in our enrollment,” said Anthony Wise, Pellissippi State president,  “reflects not only a desire by individuals to further their studies but also our community’s confidence that Pellissippi State delivers a true value in higher education.”

Pellissippi State has four campuses in Knox and Blount counties. Registration is now under way for spring semester. The application deadline is Jan. 5, and classes begin Jan. 12. The college is closed for the holidays Dec. 19-Jan. 2.
