Spruce up your networking before spring break

What do you think when I say “networking”?

Unless you work in Information Technology, you probably think of an awkward gathering where you try to sell something to other people, or sell yourself, and you’re only going to “sell yourself” when you’re looking for a job. Right? And since you already have a job, you have no need to network. Right?

I hate to tell you this, but if you’re thinking like that, you are cheating yourself.

Here are two good reasons to think differently about this:

  • As the title of Harvey Mackay’s book suggests, Dig Your Well Before You’re Thirsty. If you ever do find yourself needing to look for a job, you can’t wait until then to start networking.
  • If you never go anywhere other than Pellissippi State (and we hope you stay here!), you probably don’t want to simply hold onto your job. You want to grow. Properly understood, networking is the easiest, most cost-effective way to grow your career right here.

Fortunately, you don’t have to cheat yourself, and it doesn’t have to hurt.

Next Wednesday, March 2, at 11 a.m. We’ll dig into the first of two sessions addressing “Why Should I Network When I Already Have a Job?” We will share a slease-free approach to networking that will be satisfying to you as well as to the people with whom you interact. And we will introduce a couple of modern networking tools (one of which is practically brand new) to help you find and connect with your ideal community.

Register here to ensure your seat. We will go deeper at a later session in April, but this session will get you started immediately. Note: this is a perfect session to attend before going anywhere on Spring Break.
