Feb. 9, 2007 Pellissippi State co-hosts community forum on building workforceCitizens interested in sharing their opinions on building a competitive workforce should attend an upcoming forum.Pellissippi State Technical Community College, the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce and the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service are hosting a community forum on building the next Southern workforce on Feb. 28, 2:30-4:30 p.m. The forum will be at the Pellissippi Campus on Hardin Valley Road in the Cafeteria Annex in the Goins Building. Another forum is scheduled at the Blount County Chamber of Commerce Feb. 14, 8-10 a.m. The public is encouraged to participate. “It is vital to our region to have a highly skilled workforce in order to compete in today’s global economy,” said Teri Brahams, executive director of Business and Community Services at Pellissippi State. Feedback from this and other forums throughout the South will be shared with Southern leaders through the Southern Growth Policies Board, a nonpartisan public policy think tank that each year initiates a dialogue on a particular issue related to economic development. The forums are meant to launch new networks and provoke serious thinking about the future of Southern communities. “With this forum,” said Brahams, “we hope to inspire thoughtful examination of differing points of views on how we develop this workforce and then work toward finding common ground that can help us plan for our community’s future.” For more information about the forum at Pellissippi State, contact Teri Brahams at (865) 694-6476 or tbrahams@pstcc.edu.
