June 1, 2007 Pellissippi State names Fowler to head Liberal ArtsPellissippi State Technical Community College has selected Jonathan Fowler to be the new head of the Liberal Arts Department. Fowler replaces Anthony Wise, who recently was hired as vice president of Academic and Student Affairs after James Bruns retired.
Fowler says he is both excited and nervous about taking on the new challenge. “It’s a good nervousness, though—one that I remember feeling years ago when I first started teaching,” he said. Fowler is looking forward to getting to know the faculty better and working with them as the department head, he says. “We have a diverse group of talented educators, and it’s been a blessing to work at Pellissippi State. So many here are committed to excellence and dedicated to meeting the educational needs of our community.” Fowler has served at the college since 1999, when he began as an adjunct faculty member in history. He became full time in 2000 and served as an associate professor of history before accepting the position of department head. “I look forward to working with Jonathan in his new administrative role and am pleased with his success at the college,” said Allen Edwards, Pellissippi State president. In 1988, Fowler received his bachelor’s degree from Furman University in South Carolina. He earned his master’s in 1992 from Clemson University, also in South Carolina, and a doctorate from the University of Tennessee in 2003. All three degrees are in history. Fowler lives in Knoxville with his wife and their 2-year-old daughter. Related Information: Search Pellissippi State News Releases.
