Jan. 24, 2007 Pellissippi State offers free basic skills and GED classes, half-price GED testThere’s no time like the present to improve your basic skills or get your GED. The Adult Education Program at Pellissippi State Technical Community College is offering free basic skills and GED preparation classes. In addition, the GED test, which normally costs $55, is only $25 during the month of March at the GED testing center on the Pellissippi Campus. Participants are often able to significantly improve their basic skills or get their GED after only a few weeks of study, so those who join classes soon should be ready to take advantage of the half-price GED test in March. “Students work at their own pace, and with the help of dedicated, caring teachers, students reach their goals,” said Joan Newman, Adult Education supervisor. “All students have to do is take the first step and come to our program.” Classes are taught using a variety of teaching strategies, including one-on-one tutoring, small-group work, computer tutorials, videotapes and written materials. Both day and evening hours are available to accommodate the working and family needs of adult students. Adult Education classes are offered at two locations, the Pellissippi Campus on Hardin Valley Road in West Knoxville and the Heart of Knoxville Career and Resource Center, located at the Magnolia Avenue Campus, 1610 E. Magnolia Ave. “Improving your education is a great gift to give yourself,” said Newman, “one that often results in opening new doors to a brighter and more satisfying future.” To schedule an appointment or obtain more information about the Adult Education Program, call (865) 539-7109.
