Pellissippi State offers New Student Orientation sessions

If you are a new student to Pellissippi State Technical Community College this fall, make plans to attend one of the college’s New Student Orientation sessions. Sessions are scheduled for June, July and August.

Attendance is required of all first-time freshmen. Parents are also welcome to attend.

At orientation, you will have the opportunity to meet with Pellissippi State students, faculty and staff; discuss strategies for college success; explore degree and major options; and learn about campus services and resources.

You also will have the opportunity to meet with an academic advisor and register for fall semester classes.

Orientation will take place at Pellissippi State’s Blount County Center Aug. 23, 5:30-7:30 p.m.; Division Street Campus, Aug. 23, 12-2 p.m.; and Magnolia Avenue Campus, Aug. 21, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Orientation is scheduled on different dates at the Pellissippi Campus for different interest areas. Sessions are offered June 28 for students entering education, nursing or the health professions; July 26 for undecided majors; and July 12, Aug. 9 and 23 for all majors.

Daytime sessions are 9:30 a.m.-2:45 p.m. and meet in the Goins Auditorium. Evening sessions run 4-8:30 p.m. and also are in the Goins Auditorium.

A July 19 session is set for adult students ages 25 and older entering any major, and an Aug. 2 session is scheduled for all majors.

Students who attend New Student Orientation will receive a free copy of “Sharpshooter” by David Madden. “Sharpshooter” is the book being used for the Common Academic Experience for the 2007-2008 school year at Pellissippi State.

Use of the book is meant to help first-year students investigate common themes while they grow personally and develop a sense of community. The book will be used in several courses and activities throughout the year.
