June 13, 2007 Phi Theta Kappa joins Relay for Life to fight cancerLooking for a way to help in the fight against cancer? Join the Pellissippi State chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society’s Relay for Life team.Anyone and everyone is invited to join the team or make a donation. Relay for Life is an American Cancer Society fundraiser at the World’s Fair Park in downtown Knoxville. The event is June 22, beginning at 7 p.m. More than three million people participate in corresponding events nationwide. The overnight event celebrates cancer survivors and raises money for research and ACS programs. Participating teams walk or run laps, and each team tries to keep at least one member on the track at all times. “You can walk for one hour or 12!” said Carol O’Farrell, associate professor of English and PTK chapter advisor. Local bands, an American Indian storyteller, an auction and a climbing wall are some of the features of this year’s relay. “This is one of the most moving and significant service projects that Phi Theta Kappa and the Pellissippi State community participate in,” said O’Farrell. To participate, please visit www.relayforlife.org or contact team captain Karen Quammen at 387-3712. Related Information: Search Pellissippi State News Releases.
