May 24, 2007 Pellissippi State offers new course on living on retirement incomeGetting close to retirement or already retired? “Financial Survival for Retirement” at Pellissippi State Technical Community College is the course for you.The new non-credit course will teach you the fundamentals to ensure your money lasts throughout retirement. The class is offered June 12 and 19 at the Blount County Center and Aug. 13 and 20 on the Pellissippi Campus. Among the topics are choosing investments, learning strategies to reduce taxes and protecting life savings. Participants will also learn how to plan for a health-care catastrophe and how to reduce their taxes on Social Security payments and Individual Retirement Account or 401(k) distributions. The instructors are Jim Brogan and Doug Mentzer. Both are certified senior, investment and retirement financial advisors. Brogan is the host of the “Well Preserved” radio show on NewsTalk 100. Mentzer is regarded as a top expert on complex Internal Revenue Service rules for IRA and 401(k) distributions.
