Feb. 4, 2008 Public invited to attend community college choral festival at Pellissippi State The public is invited to attend the biennial Invitational Choral Festival Feb. 21 at Pellissippi State Technical Community College. There is no admission charge and parking is free. Area community college choirs will come together in the Performing Arts Center on the Pellissippi Campus to perform in the festival. The Pellissippi Campus is on Hardin Valley Road, and the event is 2-4:30 p.m. “We do this every other year,” said Bill Brewer, assistant professor of vocal and choral music at Pellissippi State . “We invite other two-year colleges to bring their choral groups here. Each group sings 10 minutes’ worth of selections. “We bring a clinician from a four-year school to make verbal and written comments. He will come to the stage and do a hands-on workshop. He’ll work with each choir to see how it can do things better, different. All the choirs observe each other—it’s a very interactive learning experience.” Pellissippi State’s Concert Chorale, composed of 65 non-auditioned members, and Variations, a 36-member auditioned ensemble, will both perform. For more information, call the Music office at (865) 539-7178.
