March 24, 2008 Pellissippi State VP shares stories of Civil War ancestors at Blount County Center The Yankee soldier was in Rebel territory when he was caught and imprisoned. Desperate to escape, he jumped from the second story of the Anderson County jail and crawled to the riverbank. On April 18, find out how the soldier managed to get back to Union territory. That’s when Jerry Bryan, vice president of Information Services at Pellissippi State Technical Community College, will speak on “My Civil War Ancestors From East Tennessee.” The free presentation—offered at 9:40 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 12:55 p.m. at the college’s Blount County Center—is done in conjunction with this year’s Common Academic Experience. The current Common Academic Experience revolves around David Madden’s Civil War novel, “Sharpshooter.” The community is invited to attend. Bryan has roots in this area’s Bryan and Peters families. He was bitten by the Civil War bug in 1998 when he started researching family history. He has since identified eight or nine local family members connected to the Civil War and others who were part of the Revolutionary War.
