Editor
of Confederate woman’s diaries to speak January 18
In 1892, a devoutly religious farm woman
and staunch Confederate sympathizer named Eliza Fain was
laid to rest in Rogersville. The East Tennessee community
was the site of a Civil War battle fought nearly three decades

Prospective
students and parents invited to open house
Pellissippi State is hosting a “Pellissippi
Preview” on January 31. Prospective students and their
parents are invited to attend the College’s open house
from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. (more)
Paralegal
student earns scholarship award
Anne Tharp, a Paralegal Studies major at
Pellissippi State, has received a $500 scholarship from
the Smoky Mountain Paralegal Association. (more)
Alcoa
grant keeps College on cutting edge of engineering
Pellissippi State is taking another step
into the technological future, thanks to a grant from the
Alcoa Foundation. (more)

contributes $127 million annually to area economy
The 20th annual analysis of the economic
impact of the College on the Knox and Blount county area
revealed that the value of business volume, jobs and individual
income amounted to about $636 million in the 2002-2007 period,
or $127 million each year. (more)
New
game design, programming certificates offered this semester
Starting this semester, students will have
the opportunity to earn certification in what was formerly
only a popular pastime: video games. (more)

brings visiting writers to Blount County high schools
What makes a writer? That question and others
were addressed at a recent authors’ teach-in organized
by Pellissippi State for English students participating
in the College’s Dual Enrollment program at Blount
