Pellissippi
State celebrates Black History Month
Motivational
speaker Delatorro L. McNeal II will be the featured presenter
at the 15th annual Black History Month celebration at
Pellissippi State. McNeal educates, equips and empowers
audiences with his belief that “Goodness is free,
Greatness will cost you! Are you ready to pay the price?”
McNeal
will speak on Monday, February 2, at noon in the Performing
Arts Center. He’ll give additional presentations—all
addressing the concept that “Applied Knowledge Is
Power”—at the Magnolia Avenue Campus on February
3 at 6 p.m. and February 4 at noon.
“Passion,
Path and Purpose” is the theme for this year’s
Black History Month celebration. The college will offer
a variety of exhibits, speakers and events during February.
All are free and open to the public. (more)
Campus hosts
School Board candidates
The Magnolia
Avenue Campus will host a coffee hour with this year’s
Knox County School Board candidates on January 29 at 10
a.m. in the Community Room.
The
coffee hour’s purpose is to provide an opportunity
for voters to get to know the candidates and ask any questions
they might have. Candidates who have indicated their participation
are Don Akers, Karen Carson, Dennis J. (D.J.) Cright,
Brian Hornback, Indya Kincannon, D.M. Miller, Dennis Seal
and Patsy Vittetoe.
Adult Education
Program earns award for excellence
The
Adult Education Program has received the 2003 Commitment
Award from the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence
(TNCPE). TNCPE selected Pellissippi State's program for
its use of the national Baldrige quality criteria for
continuous improvement toward providing excellence in

Joan
Davis vies for national teaching award
Joan
Davis, associate professor of Computer Integrated Drafting
and Design, has been named Technical Teacher of the Year
for 2003 by the American Technical Education Association
(ATEA) Mississippi River and Gulf Region.
She
will now be considered by the national association for
National Technical Teacher of the Year for 2004. The winner
will be announced at the national conference, which takes
place April 14-17 in Nashville. (more)
Tom Gaddis
new head of Knoxville tourism alliance
Tom
Gaddis, assistant professor and program coordinator of
the Hospitality Program, has been appointed president
of the Knoxville Tourism Alliance (KTA)—the first
president who is not currently a hotelier.
Gaddis
began his two-year term in December. He has been at Pellissippi
State for seven years and has 26 years of hospitality
experience.
Gaddis
was appointed in November, after being recommended by
a nominating committee and elected without opposition
by the KTA executive board. (more)
Pellissippi
State's 'Kentucky Cycle' chosen for Kennedy Center festival
Pellissippi
State’s theatrical production “The Kentucky
Cycle” has been selected as one of six shows to
participate in the Region IV Kennedy Center American College
Theatre Festival in February. (more)

you can have the opportunity to see a repeat performance
of this award-winning play! The cast will hold a benefit
performance on Monday, February 2, at 7 p.m. in the
Performing Arts Center. Admission is free, but a donation
of $10 or more is requested. Donations will be used
to finance the group’s trip to the Region IV
Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in
Birmingham. |

now open
College
students who need a course in developmental mathematics
now have an alternative that makes it easier to accommodate
