Title: Associate Professor of Office Systems Technology

Major responsibilities: I am lead instructor for OST 1005 and OST 2360. I also teach three Web courses each semester. I am currently serving on the Curriculum Development Committee and am also participating in the Classroom Assessment Techniques seminar this semester.

Length of service at the College: 16 years (11 full time and 5 part time)

Place of birth: Knoxville

Family members: Husband, Bill; Children: son and wife, Jeff and Robin Burris; daughter and husband, Gina and Rick Holecek; grandchild: Ada Rose Burris, 20 months

Something no one knows about you: I played on a powder-puff football team in high school—one game only.

Greatest achievement or proudest moment: Having a son and daughter who have become caring, responsible, and delightful adults.

Favorite things outside work: Playing with my granddaughter, visiting with family and friends, traveling, exercising (I at least try to think I enjoy it), and reading.

Most rewarding part of your job: When a student says after I have introduced a feature in a software package, “I wish I had known that last week when I was working on a report.” Also, it is rewarding to have OST graduates contact me with news about how things are going on their jobs or about recent promotions.

Greatest unfulfilled ambition: Visiting all 50 states—I'm getting there.

Favorite quote: “When you retire, will you worry that you didn't work hard enough or that you didn't spend enough time with your children?” (Paraphrased) I'm not sure where the quote actually originated, but it is basically my mom's (Ada Underwood) philosophy.
