Pellissippi State's 'Kentucky Cycle' chosen for Kennedy Center festivalPellissippi State's theatrical production “The Kentucky Cycle” has been selected as one of six shows to participate in the Region IV Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in February.“The Kentucky Cycle” was one of 50 competing productions in Region IV and the only one chosen from a community college. Region IV includes not only the Southeastern states but also Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Charles Miller, assistant professor of theatre and lead teacher for theatre courses, directed the play. Several students from the college also received nominations for their roles in the production. Three students—Catherine Towler, Matt McDonald and James Francis (now at UT)—were nominated for the regional Irene Ryan acting competition. Michael Coe was nominated for the Barbizon Design Award in the Sound Design category. Lighting designer and UT student Weston Wilkerson was also nominated for his design. “Regardless of whether or not we're chosen to go to the final competition at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., it is a great honor to go to the regional competition,” said Miller. “The whole experience has been a very valuable one for all of the students. To be nominated on our very first production shows that we have some highly talented students and a program with a great deal of promise.”
The regional festival will take place in Birmingham, Alabama, February 3-8, with “The Kentucky Cycle” staged twice on February 5.
