State student meets success on road to recovery
Before the 30-year-old enrolled at the Blount
County campus in the spring of last year, she lost a good-paying
job, wrecked her health, jeopardized her marriage and nearly
abandoned her two children—all, she says, the direct
result of being addicted to cocaine. (more)
College
hosted early morning Holocaust observance
The Magnolia Avenue Campus and Adult Education
Program co-sponsored a program last week in observance of
the 62nd anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The
event was January 25 in the Community Room at the Magnolia
Avenue Campus. (more)
Downtown
exhibit features student work
Learn about Knoxville’s Sunsphere in
a short documentary, browse photography and graphic design
pieces for sale, and view Web site designs. Pellissippi
State’s Media Technologies exhibit at the Art Market
Gallery, February 27-March 10, will feature these and much
more. (more)
Throughout 2007 “Inside Pellissippi” will
focus on success stories of faculty or staff members
who have been involved in initiatives to help students.
Of those stories, many will focus on Foundations of
Excellence in the First College Year, which is an
effort specifically aimed at helping first-year students
succeed. Others will focus on student success stories
from various employees who work with students.
Pilot
project geared toward HOPE scholars
First-year HOPE scholars enrolled in
selected English 1010 classes in fall 2006 got a reminder
to keep their grades up. Those enrolled in 27 sections
of the course this semester will also be contacted,
thanks to a student success coordinator involved in
the First College Year project. (more)

Under Medic Regional Blood Center’s blood-donor plan,
one donation a year exempts the donor and his or her dependents
from paying blood supplier processing fees anywhere in the
country if a transfusion is needed. (more)
