State celebrates Black History Month
Pellissippi State will kick off its 16th annual Black
History Month celebration with a noted state historian,
followed later in the month with speakers, entertainers,
a book discussion and more. Each campus will provide
activities that exemplify this year’s theme, “Universal
Voices of Art, Music and Literature.”

Buentiempo knows firsthand the stark contrast between
the classroom and the jail cell. The 24-year-old is currently
enrolled in classes at the Blount County Center—a
year after completing a two-year sentence in Brushy Mountain

State receives $150,000 for Blount County Center
DENSO
North America Foundation (DNAF) has awarded the Pellissippi
State Foundation a grant of $150,000 for new equipment
and technology for the Blount County Center. DNAF representatives
presented the check during a December 13 ceremony at the

State graduate returns to teach
Marilyn Harper meets life's challenges head
on

This
fall, 10 years after graduating with an associate's degree,
Marilyn Harper returned to Pellissippi State-this time
as a member of the faculty. Harper says she had no intention
of attending classes or pursuing a degree, let alone becoming
a college instructor. But in attending classes with her
son, Harper discovered a long-buried love of learning.

hosts Mini College Fair and Financial Aid Workshop
High
school students and their parents are invited to attend
a Mini College Fair and Financial Aid Workshop sponsored
by Pellissippi State. Interested participants can attend
February 1 at the Pellissippi Campus or February 3 at
the Magnolia Avenue Campus. The fair will be held 6-7
p.m., followed by the Financial Aid Workshop, presented
by Pat Peace, Financial Aid director. (more)
Blood
donations needed
The
Medic Mobile will be on the Pellissippi Campus in the
Visitor’s Parking Lot on February 2, 8:30 a.m. to
4 p.m. You are encouraged to donate blood, and everyone
donating will receive a free Medic T-shirt and free cholesterol
evaluation. Donors must bring identification.
