Pellissippi State hosts community college choral festival

The College community and the public are invited to attend the biennial Invitational Choral Festival February 21 on the Pellissippi Campus. There is no admission charge and parking is free.

Area community college choirs will come together 2-4:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Each group will sing 10 minutes’ worth of selections.

“We do this every other year,” said Bill Brewer, assistant professor of vocal and choral music at Pellissippi State. “We invite other two-year colleges to bring their choral groups here.

“We bring a clinician from a four-year school to make verbal and written comments. He will come to the stage and do a hands-on workshop. He’ll work with each choir to see how it can do things better, different. All the choirs observe each other—it’s a very interactive learning experience.”

Pellissippi State’s Concert Chorale, composed of 65 non-auditioned members, and Variations, a 36-member auditioned ensemble, will both perform.
