Financial aid info event set for February 10
Need money for college? Then don’t miss College Goal Sunday
at Pellissippi State Technical Community College.
At College Goal Sunday, which takes place February 10, 2-4 p.m.,
on the Pellissippi Campus, local students and parents can learn
the ins and outs of obtaining financial aid for college.
The free event is in the Open Computer Lab on the third floor
of the Educational Resources Center.
“College Goal Sunday is a national program we have been
involved with for three years,” said Paul McKinney, director
of Financial Aid at Pellissippi State. “This event will
reach out not only to our students but to anyone that needs help
in the community with applying for financial aid. Financial aid
professionals from other colleges also will be here to help.”
Students will get on-site professional assistance with filling
out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the federally
required form for students seeking financial aid, including grants,
scholarships and loans. Students also will have the opportunity
to apply for financial aid online at the event.
McKinney suggests that students get a PIN (personal identification
number) for the FAFSA beforehand at www.pin.ed.gov.
Attendees also should bring the following documents, if available:
2007 federal tax return or other income documentation; Social
Security number; driver’s license; 2007 W-2 forms or year-end
pay stubs and other year-end records of money received; 2007 untaxed
income records—Social Security, Temporary Assistance to
Needy Families, welfare, or veterans benefits records; 2007 bank
statements; 2007 business and investment mortgage information;
business and farm records; stock, bond, and other investment records;
and alien registration card (if you are not a U.S. citizen).
