EMPLOYEE PROFILE

Name: Kathy Byrd.

Title: Associate Professor of English.

Major responsibilities: My primary responsibility is to teach courses in composition and literature, and this year I am serving as Faculty Council president and writing feature stories for Community Relations..

Length of service at the College: 11 years.

Place of birth: Knoxville.

Family members: Husband, Leonard Butts; daughters, Lauren, 19, and Courtlin, 15.

Something no one knows about you: Well, there’s a good reason no one knows it, so I guess we’ll just keep it that way.

Greatest achievement or proudest moment: The births of my children.

Favorite things outside work: Participating in various sports, mostly running and basketball; being with my daughters and husband, whether we are traveling or just watching a movie together; reading.

Most rewarding part of your job: Getting to know students and helping them come to appreciate the intrinsic rewards of learning; working and laughing with a terrific group of colleagues.

Greatest unfulfilled ambition: Becoming a constitutional lawyer (I couldn’t afford law school); playing in the WNBA (I was born 20 years too late and six inches too short).
