Pellissippi State honor society taps new members
Pellissippi State is recognizing its top scholars in April.
Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society for students at two-year
colleges, will induct new members April 3 at 3 p.m. in the Goins
Auditorium on the Pellissippi Campus. New officers for the next
school year also will be elected.
As many as 500 Pellissippi State students could be eligible for
membership, which is based on a minimum of 12 hours of associate's
degree work and a minimum 3.5 grade point average. Orientation for
prospective new members will take place March 14 at 1 p.m. and March
15 at 4 p.m. in the Auditorium.
Nearly 150 students were inducted into the local chapter last
fall and spring.
Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher
education, with more than 1.5 million members and 1,200 chapters
located in all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canada and Germany.
About 100,000 students are inducted into Phi Theta Kappa each
year, and about 200,000 students participate in society programs
annually.
The Pellissippi State chapter, with about 275 members, will sponsor
a fund-raising car wash March 26, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Wal-Mart
at Turkey Creek. Proceeds will go to the Dream Connection, a local
program that helps children being treated for cancer.
For additional information on the Pellissippi State chapter, contact
chapter president Karen Quammen at 387-3712 or s_kfquammen@pstcc.edu.
