Women’s
History Month events to remind women: ‘Self-care
isn’t selfish’
Women
and their well-being will be the focus of a number of
events scheduled at Pellissippi State throughout the month
of March in celebration of Women's History Month. With
activities planned at three campuses—Pellissippi,
Division Street and Blount County—Women's History
Month events will include a student poetry contest for
cash prizes, an art exhibit, and a wide range of expert
panels on such timely topics as financial freedom, spirituality,
exercise, and the integration of mind, body, and spirit.

Human Resources
offers training session and seminar
Human
Resources is sponsoring an Employee Assistance Program
(EAP) supervisor training session and well-being seminar
on Thursday, March 11, in the Goins Auditorium. The training
will provide supervisors with an overview of EAP services.
It will be held from 9-11 a.m. The seminar is designed
to help participants improve their sense of well-being,
alleviate stress and/or grief, feel good in heart and
soul, and strengthen mind and body. It will be held from
11 a.m.-noon.
Author
Jeanne McDonald to read fiction at Spring Writers' Series
Local
author Jeanne McDonald will read from her various works
as part of the College's Writers' Series on Tuesday, March
16, at noon in the Goins Auditorium. The reading is sponsored
by Writer-in-Residence Edward Francisco and the English

Celtic musicians
hope to raise 'Pot of Gold' for student scholarships
Pellissippi
State will host the St. Patrick's Day Pot of Gold Benefit
Performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, in the Performing
Arts Center. The performance will showcase the College's
Celtic and Harp ensembles and will feature a guest performance
by the Scottish duo Drops of Brandy. The event is free
to the public, although donations to benefit student scholarship
programs will be accepted. (more)
Poet Katherine
Smith to give reading at Pellissippi State
Poet Katherine Smith will present a reading
of her work on Thursday, March 18, noon-1 p.m., in the
Goins Building Auditorium as part of the Spring Writer's
Series.
Smith's
work has appeared in “Poetry,” “Shenandoah,”
“The Southern Poetry Review,” “Many
Mountains Moving,” “Smartish Pace,”
“Now and Then” and the “Southern Review.”
An essay “The Artist as Single Mother” appeared
in “Sleeping with One Eye Open: Women Writers on
the Art of Survival,” edited by Marilyn Kallet and
Judith Ortiz Cofer (University of Georgia, 1999). (more)
Scholarship
application deadline fast approaching
Faculty,
please remind your students that March 15 is the priority
deadline for applying for a scholarship from Pellissippi
State for the 2004-2005 academic year.
More than 250 academic and service scholarships are available
through the Pellissippi State Foundation and will be awarded
based on need, academic achievement, talent and/or professional
ambition. Awards range from a few hundred dollars to full
tuition and fees.
