Poet Katherine Smith to give reading at Pellissippi StatePoet Katherine Smith will present a reading of her work on Thursday, March 18, noon-1 p.m., in the Goins Building Auditorium as part of the Spring Writer's Series.Smith's work has appeared in “Poetry,” “Shenandoah,” “The Southern Poetry Review,” “Many Mountains Moving,” “Smartish Pace,” “Now and Then” and the “Southern Review.” An essay “The Artist as Single Mother” appeared in “Sleeping with One Eye Open: Women Writers on the Art of Survival,” edited by Marilyn Kallet and Judith Ortiz Cofer (University of Georgia, 1999). Smith was the recipient of the first Libba Moore Gray Prize awarded by the Knoxville Writers' Guild in 1996. A former instructor of English at Pellissippi State and long-time Knoxville resident, she currently lives in Maryland, where she is an assistant professor at Montgomery College. The Writer's Series is sponsored by Ed Francisco, the College's writer-in-residence, and the English Department. The series presentations are free and open to the public.
In April the series will feature readings by several nationally acclaimed poets in honor of National Poetry Month.
