National Geographic photographer head instructor
for digital photography workshop
Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Jay Dickman is the lead instructor
for a digital photography workshop May 14-19 on the Pellissippi
Campus.
Dickman is a regular contributor to National Geographic Magazine.
His work has appeared in 15 of the “A Day in the Life of
… ” books, and his clients range from Nike to the
National Football League.
Instructors for the workshop also include renowned digital photographer
Jay Kinghorn, an Adobe Photoshop Certified Expert and owner of
RGB Imaging, a digital imaging company; Kurt Mutchler, senior
photo editor for National Geographic; and KD Lawson, Photography
coordinator at Pellissippi State.
The event is co-sponsored by Olympus, Hewlett-Packard, Jewelry
Television and the Tennessee Smokies.
The registration deadline is March 23.
“In this five-day digital photojournalism experience,”
said Lawson, “you will immerse yourself in assignments,
nurture your photographic instincts and develop a digital workflow
of shooting, editing and layout.”
The workshop is part of the Firstlight Collegiate Workshop series.
Firstlight Workshops are known for giving photographers the chance
to learn from world-class experts.
Participants will survey, study and shoot photography assignments
focusing on East Tennessee scenes and culture. Limited enrollment
ensures that each participant will have plenty of personal instruction
from the photographers, including editing sessions with each one.
The final night of the workshop culminates in a gallery exhibit
displaying each student’s best work.
Participants may bring their own equipment or take advantage of
one of the Olympus E1 digital SLR outfits available for use at
the workshop.
The fee to attend is $1,200.
