Inside Pellissippi

Accelerated Web degree partnership created at Pellissippi State, Tennessee Tech

High school students with particular skills in Internet, Worldwide Web and Web design might soon qualify for college credits here and at a Tennessee university.

The state Department of Education and the Tennessee Technology Centers have signed an agreement with Pellissippi State and Tennessee Technological University to accelerate degree completion in certain Web-related fields.

Computer-savvy high school students and students at the Tennessee Technology Centers are now eligible for advanced standing admission to Pellissippi State, which then could mean accelerated completion of the Associate of Applied Science degree and subsequent transfer to Tennessee Tech University.

This opportunity is based on successful completion of a nationally recognized Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) curriculum at Pellissippi State and successful performance on the CIW certification examinations.

Students can earn CIW certification in CIW Foundations, Site Designer or E-Commerce Designer, either through a high school program or a Tech Center program. They then will receive up to 12 hours of college credit at Pellissippi State for six Web-related courses that apply toward the completion of an associate’s degree in Web Technology.

To continue in the program at Tennessee Tech, the Pellissippi State graduate must have achieved a minimum 2.0 grade point average. All other community college or university academic regulations, such as grade point average and retention requirements, must be satisfied.

Students in this program at Pellissippi State or Tennessee Tech will not be expected to meet any different requirements than non-transfer students.
