Pellissippi State receives $25,000 Community Enhancement Grant

The Pellissippi State Foundation was presented a check for $25,000 by Jamie Woodson and Tim Burchett, both state senators, on March 14 as part of Tennessee’s Community Enhancement Grant Program.

The grant will be used to purchase equipment for the Bagwell Center for Media and Art, Pellissippi State’s newest building. President Allen Edwards led the senators on a tour of the state-of-the-art facility, which is located on the Pellissippi Campus.

" It’s essential that an educational institution offering media-related programs stay abreast of the continually evolving technology,” said Edwards, “and we appreciate the efforts of Jamie Woodson and Tim Burchett in supporting the College’s programs.

“This allocation from the Community Enhancement Grant Program will help us to continue to meet the needs and expectations of our students and the area’s growing media industry.”

The Bagwell Center houses fine arts and the Media Technologies degree program. MDT is made up of four concentrations: Communication Graphics Technology, Photography, Video Production Technology and Web Technology.

Woodson and Burchett sponsored the Community Enhancement Grant bill, which was approved by the Legislature last year. From the program, $300,000 is allocated to each state senator and $100,000 to each state representative to distribute to nonprofit organizations in the community.

“We are very impressed with the functionality and marketplace enhancement aspects of the Bagwell Center,” said Woodson, “and we are pleased to allocate a portion of our grant funds to support programs of this caliber.”

Added Burchett, “Grants like this help to bring resources back to the community, which in this case will directly benefit students and, indirectly, the business economy where they will find employment.”
