Annual 'Artique' scheduled April 29

Retired state Sen. Ben Atchley and his wife, Sue, will serve as guest hosts for the third annual "Artique," a fine art and antiques auction that benefits Pellissippi State students and programs.

Artique 2005, sponsored by the Pellissippi State Foundation, is scheduled April 29 at 7 p.m. at the Knoxville Marriott Hotel. The event is open to the public.

As part of Artique, both a live and a silent auction will take place to give attendees an opportunity to buy a variety of artwork from well-known artists in the region. For this year's event, more than 80 pieces of art will be available in all price ranges.

Along with local and regional artists' works, approximately 20 valuable antiques will be available for sale, mostly from the 19th century. They include international acquisitions such as an 1840 leather-bound miniature edition of the works of Shakespeare.

In addition, several non-art package items will be offered during the auction, including a weekend at the Maggie Valley, N.C., vacation home owned by President Allen Edwards; an 18-hole round of golf with Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale; and a child-sized playhouse in the form of a Smoky Mountain cabin, designed by Pellissippi State Interior Design Technology students and built by faculty and students from the College's Engineering Technology Program.

A comprehensive catalog of the works to be sold will be prepared for the auction.

Individual tickets and tables are available now for the black-tie-optional event. Tickets are $75 and are available from the Foundation through April 27. Corporate tables of 10 are also available. For tickets or information, call the Foundation at 694-6528.

Proceeds from Artique 2005 will go toward the Foundation's program of support for the College and its students. The Pellissippi State Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation governed by a volunteer board of community leaders. It provides a variety of direct aid to students every year. The Foundation also purchases equipment used as instructional resources and supports recognition programs for Pellissippi State students, faculty and staff.
