Railsplitters basketball team wins intramural league competition

The season and the tournament are over and the Railsplitters are the winners.

According to Dan Jones, intramural program director and manager of the Student Recreation Center, all the teams in the Intramural League were made up of Pellissippi State students. Play began on February 21.

There were two leagues, Tuesday night and Thursday night, with five teams in each league. Each team played four league games. The top four teams went to the double elimination tournament that started April 4.

The Railsplitters had a record of 9-1, including the tournament games. Charlie Cochran is the coach. Second place went to the Nat Cats, which finished with a 6-3 record.

Jones says the pictured Railsplitters team of (front) Chad Bomar, Josh Bomar, Charlie Cochran, (rear) Tyler Campbell, Dean Watkins, Phillip Jackson and Kevin Cox, had to come out of the loser’s bracket and beat the Nat Cats twice to win the championship.
