'Lessons from the Holocaust' presented at Blount County Center

The Adult Education program at Pellissippi State and Blount County's Adult Education program sponsored a special educational program on "Lessons from the Holocaust" April 20 at the College's Blount County Center.

Tamela Wheeler, an assistant coordinator for the English Speakers of Other Languages program and Adult Education teacher at Pellissippi State, presented "The Mask Project: Masks of the Perpetrators, Victims, Bystanders and Liberators of the Holocaust" and connected it to the Jewish community of Monastir as a way to humanize Holocaust victims.

Glenda Turner, a Blount County Adult Education Families First instructor, offered an overview of the events of the Holocaust, as well as current events in which people have been unjustly treated and killed. She demonstrated teaching strategies and projects that she has used to bring these events to life for her students and told how those activities have motivated her students in the classroom and in their personal lives.
