Pellissippi State signs agreement with Nashville art college

Officials of Pellissippi State and Nossi College of Art in Nashville have signed an agreement by which Pellissippi State students can transfer more easily into Nossi College of Art courses.

Under terms of the agreement, Pellissippi State students can receive full credit for their Communication Graphics Technology courses when they transfer into Nossi’s innovative Bachelor of Graphic Arts degree program in Graphic Art and Design.

Nossi’s bachelor’s program is designed for professionals working in the communication graphics field, including photography. Nossi College will assist Pellissippi State communication graphics technology graduates in securing employment in the Nashville area, where the job market for graphic art and design professionals continues to expand.

Students can take some of the general education courses required in the junior and senior years at Pellissippi State, or at other approved higher education institutions.

The agreement will go into effect in the 2005-06 academic year.

President Allen Edwards said the college is “excited about the partnership with Nossi College and the additional avenue it provides our graduates to build on the high- quality technical education they received at Pellissippi State.”

“This agreement provides a significant opportunity for our Communication Graphics Technology students to transfer without loss of credit and to continue to work while making progress toward a bachelor’s degree,” said Jim Bruns, vice president of Academic and Student Affairs.

Nossi College of Art, located in Goodlettsville near Nashville, is a professional art school accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology. It was founded in 1973 and specializes in traditional and digital photography, commercial art and computer design.

Nossi recently was notified that it will receive a 2005 School of Distinction Award from the accrediting commission.

“The Nossi College faculty and staff are committed to the professional success of individual students,” said Berta Ward, dean of academic advising, articulation and curriculum.

“We are extremely proud of our relationship with Pellissippi State,” said Nossi Vatandoost, president of Nossi College of Art. “The quality of graduates from Pellissippi State is a direct reflection of the talent and passion of their communication graphics instructors. We look forward to adding to their already outstanding portfolios.

“Pellissippi State is an excellent institution of higher learning. I know we will both benefit from this partnership,” she said.
