Pellissippi State students’ docudrama on girl’s illness shows May 28

A locally produced docudrama based on a Knoxville girl’s brush with death will get its first public showing May 28 at the Carmike Wynnsong 16 movie theater in West Knoxville. (more)



Students earn top honors in national video competition

Dogubomb Productions, created by three Pellissippi State students, recently earned top honors in a video competition sponsored by the Cadillac Division of General Motors Corp. More than 3,000 entries, each lasting no longer than five seconds, were judged, and Dogubomb’s effort was considered one of the four best in its category. (more)



Pellissippi State’s TRiO Student Support Services grant is renewed

The College been approved to receive $235,689 for each of the next four years. This will enable the support program to continue assisting first-generation and low-income students and students with disabilities in achieving academic success, graduating, and transferring to four-year institutions. The amount represents an increase of about 3 percent over the previous allocation. (more)



High-performance computing, computer security conference coming May 23-25

Building the world’s fastest supercomputer will be among the topics discussed at the third National Conference on High Performance Computing Technology at Pellissippi State May 23-25. (more)



Pellissippi State signs agreement with Nashville art college

Officials of Pellissippi State and Nossi College of Art in Nashville have signed an agreement by which Pellissippi State students can transfer more easily into Nossi College of Art courses. (more)



Balloon photo, calendar, Web site win marketing awards

A nighttime photograph of hot air balloons around a pond, a calendar and a newly redesigned Web site have earned top awards for Pellissippi State from the Tennessee College Public Relations Association. (more)



‘Bluegrass and Barbeque’ event scheduled May 21 near Maryville

True Blue will provide the tunes at the first “Blount County Bluegrass and Barbeque” fund raising event for the Pellissippi State Foundation May 21. (more)



Pellissippi State hosts writing workshops in July

The Knoxville Writers’ Guild and the English Department of Pellissippi State will cosponsor a series of writing workshops at the Pellissippi Campus July 11-28. Sessions will be conducted Mondays through Thursdays, 6-8 p.m. (more)



Wood receives ‘Executive of Year’ honor

Julia Wood, who has directed the Community Relations Office at the College since 1994, has been named Executive of the Year by the Oak Ridge chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals. (more)



Hoisting a flag for Pellissippi State’s ‘FLAG’ program

Not everyone who comes to college is fully prepared for the demands of math and English as taught at the college level. Not everyone who comes to college has the time to go to classes throughout the day and hit the books in the evening. (more)



Estate planning seminar scheduled May 18

The Department of Human Resources is sponsoring a free seminar on "Wills, Trusts and Estate Planning" May 18, noon-1 p.m., in the Goins Auditorium. Lawyer Brad Lewis will provide answers to such questions as "What's legal in Tennessee?" "Do you have to use a lawyer?" "Where do you get 'living will' forms?" "Does it have to be notarized?" "What are the laws concerning children?" "What are the options that are usually considered in such sensitive areas as resuscitation, feeding tubes, medications?" Summer library hours in effect May 31

Summer library hours soon will be going into effect. From May 31-Aug. 1, the library will be open Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m.-7:30 p.m., and Fridays 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The library will be closed July 4 and on Saturdays.
