EMPLOYEE PROFILE
Name: Bill Brewer
Title: Assistant Professor of Music
Major responsibilities: Director of choral ensembles,
lead voice teacher, instructor of humanities electives in Rock
History and Exploring Art and Music
Length of service at the College: Two years
as an adjunct instructor; in my fourth year as a full-time faculty
member
Place of birth: Knoxville
Family members: Wife, Sharon
Something no one knows about you: Most people
do not know my “real” first name, and I am not about
to change that now!
Greatest achievement or proudest moment: I consider
my greatest achievement to be the completion of my degrees, coming
from a family with virtually no history of higher education. My
parents convinced me that education would afford me a better life
alternative than they had experienced, and they made every sacrifice
to see it happen.
Favorite things outside work: Travel, singing
with the Knoxville Choral Society, annual summer projects on the
“old” house my wife and I bought four years ago.
Most rewarding part of your job: Witnessing
the “Aha!” moments on the face of a student when the
subject matter or experience of a class really connects.
Greatest unfulfilled ambition: I always used
to imagine what it would be like to sing on Broadway!
Favorite quote: “Work like you don’t
need the money, dance like no one is watching, love like you’ve
never been hurt.” (Unknown source)
