Name: Cathy Hurrell

Title: Laboratory Technician

Major responsibilities: Preparing materials and setting up labs for biology and chemistry classes.

Length of service at the College: Four years in this position and eight years in part-time and adjunct positions.

Place of birth: Dayton, Ohio

Family members: Husband, Steve; Son, Ryan; Daughter, Michelle; and cat, Sinbad

Something no one knows about you: I was voted the shyest girl in my high school senior class—but I got over it.

Greatest achievement or proudest moment: My proudest moment was when my son, Ryan, received his B.S.E.E. degree from Virginia Tech.

Favorite things outside work: Reading, cooking, scrapbooking, and visiting state and national parks.

Most rewarding part of your job: Presenting lab materials in a neat and orderly manner so students can have a good lab experience.

Most influential person in your life and why: My husband, Steve. We met and fell in love when we were both 18 years old, so we’ve supported each other through the many ups and downs of life.
