Inside Pellissippi

Employee Profile

Name: Julia Phillips

Title: Financial Aid Assistant

Major responsibilities: To assist students with work-study program placement.

Length of service at the College: 2 years

Place of birth: Knoxville

Family members: I have been married to my husband, Marvin, for 15 years. I have two daughters, Lisa, who is an attorney, and Leevette, my younger daughter who is a building inspector for the city of Atlanta. Blair Elmore is my one and only grandchild; he just turned 8.

Something no one knows about you: I love to write poetry.

Greatest achievement or proudest moment: To see my daughter Lisa graduate from law school with outstanding honors.

Favorite things outside work: Going to garage sales and visiting my grandson.

Most rewarding part of your job: To see a student come into the Financial Aid office
on the first day and then see them complete their goal of obtaining their degree.

Most influential person in your life and why: My grandmother, Nancy Parham, who is now deceased. She taught me—you get out of life what you put into it. She said that God will help you through the good and the bad times, so trust in Him. Her thinking of life has made me try to be a more positive and caring person.

Favorite quote: “Life is simple. It is just not easy.”—Author unknown
