2005-06 concert schedule announced

Eight concerts and recitals make up the series of musical programs at Pellissippi State during the 2005-06 academic year.

Two concerts by Pellissippi State choral groups are scheduled November 3 and April 25, and a faculty recital is scheduled October 6.

The Fall Choral Concert in November will include selections from several musical periods, including Renaissance and Classical, and 20th century American folk music. The theme for the faculty recital will be “Pellissippi Pops,” which will include lighter musical fare ranging from folk tunes to easy listening, Broadway to well-known classics.

A “holiday spectacular” featuring performances by instrumental and vocal soloists and ensembles is scheduled December 6, and the theme will be “White Christmas.” Traditional holiday music from choral and instrumental ensembles will include carols and such popular standards as “Let It Snow” and “The Christmas Song,” as well as a rousing arrangement of “A Jingle Bell Fantasy.”

The Small Ensemble Fall Concert will take place November 22, and the Jazz Band and Guitar Ensemble concert is scheduled April 11.

Pellissippi State’s annual Invitational Choral Festival for area two-year colleges will take place March 2. Past concerts have included participation by Pellissippi State, Roane State Community College and Walters State Community College performers.

The annual student honors recital is scheduled March 21.

All concerts will take place at the Performing Arts Center on the Pellissippi Campus, beginning at 8 p.m., except for the choral festival, which will begin at 2 p.m.
